Ama Dablam with Island Peak
Ama Dablam is considered to be one of the most popular Himalayan Peaks for an expedition. With its protruding snowy peak like structures, glaciers and it challenging nature, it can be considered to be one of the most interesting mountains to climb. Glacier walking, snow climbing and ice walking are the extremely challenging endeavors included in the peak climbing.
When combined with the climb up the Imja Tse or the Island Peak, this expedition surely becomes one of the best experiences one can find across the world. Island Peak is so named because of its presence in between the highly glaciated West Face which rises from the Lhotse Glacier. This can be considered to be a warm up and acclimatization expedition before climbing the Everest. Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)
Today we arrive from our respective locations to the capital of the beautiful country Nepal. We can spend the day strolling around the streets of the city or by relishing the unique Nepali cuisine.
Sightseeing around Kathmandu
Kathmandu is home to several UNESCO world Heritage sites worth visiting. The Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan Durbar Squares are locations with extremely beautiful architectural designs. Also worth visiting is the Swayambunath Stupa as well as the Boudhanath Stupa. The day can be spent looking at the cultural and architectural variety of the capital.
Kathmandu- Lukla- Phakding (1300m- 2652m)
Today, we embark on an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. This flight has been considered to be one of the most scenic flights in Nepal and includes the passage through hills and views of the pristine mountain peaks situated in the Everest Region. With greenery and icy peaks all around, the flight culminates in the landing in to the thrilling hillside. After landing in Lukla, we trek upwards towards the village of Phakding which is situated beautifully with views of pristine peaks.
Phakding- Namche Bazaar (2652-3440m)
This day will be targeted to reach the entry point of the Everest Region, Namche Bazaar. We will cross several suspension bridges along Monjo to reach Namcvhe Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is reached via a steep ascend and is homw to several high end cafes with internet facilities. Also available are the views of the beautiful mountain peaks like the Mt. Kusum Kangaru, Thamserku, Konde Ri as well as the Tawache Peak. There are several monasteries in the region worth visiting before we call it a night.
Acclimatization on Namche Bazaar
This day will be spent acclimatizing in Namche Bazaar. Acclimatization is absolutely important to ensure that one does not suffer from the AMS. This day should not be spent idel but must include some activates like excursion around Tyangboche, Khunde Hosptial, Syangboche or the Everest View Hotel which offers exclusive views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Kusum Kangaru as well as other peaks like the Nuptse and the Lhotse.
Namche Bazaar- Tyangboche (3440m- 3850 m)
the side of the valley above the roaring Dudh Kosi which also offers the exclusive views of the Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse as well as Ama Dablam and Thamserku. We pass through several villages and this day will start with almost a 5 hour trek into Tyangboche. Today the trail contours around tea shops to reach Phunki Tenga which is full of extremely beautiful lunch locations. We then embark on a steep climb up to the beautiful village of Tyangboche.
Tyangboche- Dingboche (3850- 4350m)
This day will start with a gradual descend through a forest and across the Imja Khola to climb upwards to the Pangboche village. This village, situated directly opposite the Ama Dablam offers exclusive views of the pristine snowy peak rising high above. The village is adorned with Mani Walls, several prayer flags as well as chortens which gives it a unique beauty. Along thick forests, the trail becomes thornier and we end the day upon reaching the beautiful village of Dingboche.
Acclimatization at Dingboche
This day will be spent on acclimatizing in Dingboche and carrying out several activities to do so.
Dingboche- Chhukung (4350m- 4730m)
This day will include a very short trek to the beautiful village of Chhukung. Summer huts for keeping the livestock can be seen along the way and the path is adorned also with beautiful mountain scenery. We spend the night in the beautiful village of Chhukung.
Chhukung- Island Peak Base Camp (4730m- 5087m)
Today, we start off with a gradual ascending path up to the Base Camp. Panoramic views of the pristine mountain peaks of the Everest region adorn the path and make everything look better. The mountain views of the Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam as well as the Island Peak will make the day an extremely beautiful one.
Setting High Camp
Today, we set up the high camp from where out expedition up the Island Peak starts. We acclimatize with the altitude by embarking on several activities during the day.
Climb the Island Peak- Base Camp
The Island Peak, surrounded with glaciers all around it, will be climbed today. The thrilling expedition can be completed on a day. We reach to the summit of the peak and observe the spectacle of the glimmering sights of the other mountain peaks situated in the region all over. After these mesmerizing views, we return back to the base camp and call it a day.
Island Peak Base Camp- Pangboche
We retrace our steps back to Pangboche, the village situated opposite the beautiful Ama Dablam Mountain.
Rest at Pangboche
Today, we spend our day in the beautiful village of Pangboche and observe the views of the extremely beautiful peaks that surround the region.
Pangboche- Ama Dablam Base Camp
This day will consist of trekking into the Base Camp of the Ama Dablam. The base camp will be set by the team and you will be free to stroll around the area and take in the beauty showcased by the Ama Dablam Base Camp.
- Day 29: Ascent and Descent of Ama Dablam
These days will be spent in ascending the extremely beautiful and the interesting Ama Dablam peak. Camp 1 will be set at the distance of 5700m in the standard route. After some acclimatization there, we return back to the base camp and prepare for actually scaling the summit. We ascent up the challenging route from Base Camp to Camp 1 and we follow the existing lines and establish new ropes wherever necessary to complete the expedition and the path upwards as less technical. After the summit up to the summit and the pride to reach the top, we return back to the base camp. The itinerary varies according to the personal experience and the number of days might vary accordingly.
Ama Dablam Base Camp- Namche Bazaar
Today we retrace our steps back to the central area of the Khumbu Region, the Namche Bazaar. We can spend the day looking for souvenirs and relaxing our aching muscles by looking back into the extremely good time we spent in reaching the summit of the Ama Dablam.
Namche Bazaar- Phakding (2652m)
We trek back to Phakding, the place we started our trip. The path will be an up and down one with the passage through Monjo.
We trek back to the beautiful town of Lukla which is home to the views of the exclusive mountain peaks including the mountain that we summited. With a content mind and happy heart, our trek into the Khumbu region comes to an end now.
We fly back to Kathmandu in a scenic flight which is highly memorable. The rest of the day in Kathmandu can be spent by strolling the streets and taking in the delights of this ancient capital.
With a happy heart and the thought of coming back for more, we depart from the beautiful country of Nepal, only with a promise to come back for more.
