Chulu West Peak Climbing

Chulu West is situated in one of the most beautiful regions of the world, The Annapurna region. The Chulu West stands tall at the height of 6419 m and is an interesting peak to summit, full of adventure and thrill. Considered to be one of the best in the Annapurna region, this peak does require a certain amount of stamina. Upon reaching the top, the magnificent peaks surrounding the peak will give a sense of thrill and excitement that is unparalleled to anything.

With the magnificent views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri, the peak will require some slow progress. Chulu West is more summited than the Chulu East as it comprises of more tricky paths. For an incredible peak climbing experience and the chance to amalgamate oneself with the ethnic inhabitants of the Annapurna region of Nepal, the Chulu West is highly recommended to all thrill seekers.

Day 01:

Arrival at Kathmandu(1300m)

The trek and peak climbing commences by reaching Kathmandu, the capital of the beautiful country of Nepal.  After reaching the capital, you have the options to either relinquish the exquisite Nepali cuisine or to stroll around the streets of the foreigner’s hub Thamel. Rest adequately for the upcoming trip.

Day 02:

Sightseeing around Kathmandu

Kathmandu has established himself as the destination for all art addicts. Full of architectural delights and historic monuments, sightseeing around Kathmandu is most certainly totally worth all the trouble. We can visit Syambunath, Boudhanath and the UNESCO World Heritage sites like the Bhaktapur, Kathmandu and Patan Durbar Square. We can also use the remaining day to prepare for the trek.

Day 03:

Kathmandu- Syange/Jagat (1300m-1100m)

Thida day starts early with a drive to the starting point of our trek. We will embark on a long drive to reach Syange or Jagat depending upon the situation today. The passage through terraced fields, the roaring Trishuli and other hills and rivulets makes the experience worth living. The drive will take us to Syange or Jagat through Besisahar. From here, the road is a rugged one but is all worth it as one can view the sceneries all along the way.

Day 04:

Syange- Dharapani( 1100m- 1960m)

Today, we will commence our trek with all the excitement possible. We will be entering the Manag district from a large bridge through the area of Tal. Through rice, barley and potato fields, along with the pine forests, we will reach Kodo. From here we will end our day at Dharapani which is a big village of the mystical Manang Valley.

Day 05:

Dharapani- Chame (1960m- 2710m)

Today, the path we follow will be a bit steep and rugged. With the passage through several landslides, we will be passing along the sensational views of the Annapurna II, LamjungHimal as well as the Annapurna IV. We will also get to relax our aching muscles in the hot spring found all along the way. This path will take us finally to the village of Chame where we will bring an end to our day.

Day 06:

Chame- Pisang( 2710m- 3300m)

Today, our path starts with a narrow and dense forest. We will be reaching a dramatic rock face beyond which we will be surrounded by the pristine views of the white mastiffs rising high above us.  After this, we will be taken to a U shaped valley of Manang within two giant snow peaks. We will end our day in the beautiful village of Pisang.

Day 07:

Pisang- Manang( 3300m- 3500m)

Today, we have the option to choose between two routes. The upper route through Geru is recommended for maximum satisfaction. The sceneries on the path are exceptionally mind blowing through this path and we get the chances to view the majestic peaks like the Annapurna, Pisang Peak and many others right before us. The alluring views amalgamated with a dry arid environment make the area more and more mysterious. We also visit the famous Barga monastery and end our day in Manang. 

Day 08:

Acclimatization in Manang

This day has been separated from acclimatizing properly with the altitude. This is done to reduce the chances of suffering from Altitude Mountain Sickness. Acclimatization is possible by moving around and not resting all day. We can stroll around the mystical Manang and visit the BhojoGompa as well as the Gangapurna Lake. We can also embark on an excursion to a village called Vraga as well as visit the Himalayan Rescue Association to obtain information about Altitude Mountain Sickness.

Day 09:

Manang- Leder (3500m- 4200m)

Today, we will continue our path through several alpine landscapes, forests and vegetation. We will move upwards towards Yak Kharka which is full of grazing yaks. This path will further take us to the destination of the day Leder where we will end our day by mixing in with the ethnic inhabitants of the area.

Day 10:

Leder- Chulu West Base Camp (4200m- 4900m)

Today we will gain a gradual altitude. With the extremely beautiful views of the Annapurna range, we will move further upwards towards the base camp. Upon reaching, we have the option to explore the surrounding areas and set our camp for the night.

Day 11:

Chulu West Base Camp- Chulu West Camp 1 (4900m- 5100m)

Today, we will continue our hike up to Camp I. the route is not too difficult and can be crossed easily. We can relish the magnificent views of the pristine snowcapped mastiffs all along the way. The mountain peaks like the Manaslu, Gangapurna as well as LamjungHimal which will take care of soothing our eyes.

Day 12:

Acclimatization in Camp I

In accordance with the fact that we are climbing at extremely high altitudes, we acclimatize with the altitude to reduce the chances of AMS. We will be resting in the Camp I while other guides will be setting up the required equipment in the Camp II. We can stroll around the area and relish the views of the pristine snowcapped white mastiffs all around us.

Day 13:

Camp I- Camp II (5100m- 5530m)

Today, we will leave the Camp I behind and climb up the rocky and steep path to Camp II. The use of crampons, ice axe as well as ropes is somewhat required at this point. There is also the opportunity to directly summit the Chulu West Peak this day, but it is better to take it steady and slow and enjoy the path.

Day 14:

Summit the Chulu West- Camp I

Tofday is the day we had been waiting for. We will be summiting the Chulu West peak today, the long and tiring day will start early and we will move forward in the icy, high altitude trail amalgamated with the views of the extremely mind-blowing views of the white mastiffs all around us. Upon reaching the top we will surely be mind blown by the perfect scenery available all around. The tempting views will leave us with a feeling of pride of having summited one of the best peaks of the Manang region.

Day 15:

Camp I- Leder(5100m-4200m)

We will retrace our path back to Leder today, after having summited the pristine Chulu West peak. We will enjoy the views of the perfect peaks all around.

Day 16:

Contingency Day

This day has been separated out in regards to the fact that we cannot always have a favorable day for the weather. Contingency day is created in order to add one extra day in the case that we might not be able to summit the peak on the scheduled date. This can also be due to weather problems or due to some problems with someone in the group not being able to acclimatize with the altitude.

Day 17:

Leder- ThorongPhedi (4200m- 4450m)

Today, after cleaning up the base camp, we move on towards ThorongPhedi. The downhill path is somewhat easy but we take it slow and steady because we will be walking around a high altitude area and need to save our energy.

Day 18:

ThorongPhedi- Thorong Pass- Muktinath- Jomsom(4450m- 5416m-3800m-2715m)

Today, we will be crossing several areas. Throng La Pass will be our first destination which is started off by an early morning trek. The area is suitable for viewing the mind blowing views of the mountain peaks all around us of the Annapurna region. After being content with the views we will have seen, we will now walk forward towards the pilgrimage site of Muktinath. It hosts the very famous Vishnu temple as well as a monastery nearby thus establishing itself as a destination for Hindus and Buddhists and demonstrating the religious harmony of Nepal. Water spouts adorn the region, amalgamated with the views of the Dhaulagiri peak. We then embark on a 2 hour drive to reach Jomsom and end our long day there.

Day 19:

Jomsom- Pokhara

We bid goodbye to the Mustang region today and end our trekking. We will fly back to Pokhara today. The flight in itself is a scenic with the passage through the gorge of the huge mountains like the Annapurna as well as the Dhaulagiri. After reaching Pokhara we will have the options to stroll around and visit the important areas of Pokhara. We can boat around the Fewa Lake or the Begnas Lake and enjoy the party like ambience given out by the beautiful Lake city of Pokhara. Also included are the options to embark on a short hike to the beautiful Peace Pagoda.

Day 20:

Pokhara- Kathamandu

With the end of our trip, we take a drive back to Kathamndu. The drive in itself is a scenic one with the passage through several terraced green farms, rivers and rivulets along the way. Upon reaching Kathmandu, we can spend the rest of the day strolling around the streets near our hotel and buying souveniers for our loved ones back home.

Day 21:

Departure

With our hearts content for having climbed the Chulu West peak and with the experiences we have gathered during the trek, we bid goodbye to the beautiful country of Nepal. We will return back to our destination with a promise to come back for more whenever possible.
