Koshi Tappu

Situated at the Eastern side of Nepal, the Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve covers an area of 175 square kilometers. It is named after the Koshi River, the biggest in Nepal. The reserve covers the expanse of the blue waters and lush jungles around the Koshi River and is a popular safari destination in the eyes of internal as well as external tourists. The reserve also offers the views of the Mt.Manaslu on a clear day and it is the Koshi Tappu wildlife Reserve from where more than half of the bird species of Nepal are recorded.


The amazing ecosystem of the reserve along with the presence of the Gharial, crocodile, lizards, wild elephant, Black necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Greater Adjujant Stork, red-necked falcon, Baers Pochard, Bengal Florican, Black-bellied Tern, Great Stone Plover, Dusky Eagle Owl. Marsh Warbler, Wild Water Buffalo, Blue Bull Antelope, Hog Deer etc. are the attractions of the safari around the Koshi Tappu Wildlife reserve. Migratory birds are the most exciting features of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. Depending upon the needs and the conditions of the tourists, the itinerary to visit and explore the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve can be formulated. Day 01:

Kathmandu- Biratnagar

After arriving in Kathmandu, we can directly board a flight to Biratnagar or wait for a day before doing so. After reaching Biratnagar, we will be transferred into a camp in the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. Upon reaching the camp, we can take help from a naturalist to understand the risks involved and the exciting things we will be able to see here.

Day 02:

Exploration of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve

Our day starts early in the morning today. This is the best time to see the vast amount of birds hosted by the wildlife reserve. We walk through marshlands and the premises around our camps to witness the views of the beautiful and shy bird species like the Bitterns and Cranes. The nocturnal fishing cat can too be spotted during the evenings or at night. This day is totally dedicated towards bird watching and the area between the camping site and the Kusaha is suited best for this purpose. The wrblers, Oriole, Bush Warblers, Flycatchers, Waders and Raptors dwell in the habitat of the thin Indian Rosewood Forest.

Day 03:

Exploration of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve

Today too, we rise up early in the morning and spend a few hours boating down the Koshi River. We spend the day on a watch for birds like the waders and raptors. We can also get the glimpses of Wild Water buffalos called the Arna on the way. We can then explore the swamps to observe the Swamp francolin.

Day 04:

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve- Kathmandu

We wake up early in the morning and spend our morning watching the birds around the premises of the camp. After lunch, we depart to the capital, Kathmandu

After witnessing the exclusive never seen before, birds and animals in the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, it’s time to bid goodbye to the beautiful national of Nepal with a promise to come back for more.
