The astounding 8516m high Lhotse is best known as the fourth highest mountain in the world. Sitting in the Everest region in Nepal along Nepal-China Border, Lhotse in Tibetan Language means ‘South Peak” since it is the southern extension of Mt. Everest. Lhotse stands among two sister peaks namely Lhotse Shar at 8383m and Lhotse Middle at 8414m. Lhotse which is usually clustered by enthusiastic climbers was first summited by a Swiss team.
Lhotse is one of the most technically challenging expeditions. It is not for the faint of the hearts. One of the most challenging facet of Lhotse stands out to be its western CWM or Lhotse Face which is a wall of glacial blue ice that is 1125 tall with vertical pitches and deep humps. Lhotse is a part of the Mahalangur range of Himalayas. Just like Everest, reaching the summit of Lhotse gives a surreal pleasure to the climbers. The summit of Lhotse also gives a vivid view of the highest mountains of the world including Everest, Nuptse, Lobuche, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, Nirekha and many more. The Lhotse expedition is one of the most tedious and enthralling experience.
