Dolpo region is one of the most rugged regions of Nepal untouched by the waves of globalization and urbanization. Lying in the mid-western Nepal, it touches Tibet and has a dry arid geography. Home to people influenced strongly by trans- Himalayan and Tibetan culture, the region has a raw beauty that remains in the minds of trekkers for a long time. The Shey-Phoksondo Lake, animals like snow-leopards, griffon, blue sheep, unique birds, mountain peaks like the Kanjiroba, Dhaulagiri, Churen, Mukot, Arniko, Hiunchuli etc. make trekking in this region a must-do for thrill seekers.
Is Dolpo region safe after the 2015 earthquake? Yes, it is. The mystical, restricted Upper Dolpo and the Lower Dolpo make up the Dolpo region which is inhabited by the people of the unique Bonpo Tribe. For a thrill seeker with a need for adventure and an interest to mix up with unique tribes, trekking in this region is highly recommended.
