Gosaikunda is a lake carrying a spiritual and mystical importance amongst the Nepali citizens of Nepal. It lies in the Langtang region of Nepal and is frequented mostly by Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. As for the external tourists, it is one of the most sought after trekking locations in Nepal. The lake is set across a backdrop of views of various mountain peaks like the Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Langtang Lirung among many more. It is surrounded also by other lakes like the Bhairabkunda, Saraswatikunda among many more.
The trekking trail amalgamates the passage through the Langtang National park and offers the occasional views of animals like the red pandas, bears, monkeys as well as pristine views of the mountain peaks of this region. The Kyangjin Gompa, Kayngjin Ri, Sing Gompa and the views of peaks like the Langtang, Tserko Ri, Langsisa Ri, Himal Chuli, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and several other Tibetan peaks are the major attractions of the trek.

Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)
The first day of this wonderful trek begins by arrival in the capital of the beautiful Himalayan country Nepal. One can enjoy the splendid Nepali cuisine and relish their senses.
Sightseeing around Kathmandu
Kathmandu is home to various UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Kathmandu Durbar square, Syambunath Stupa, Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath etc. are the major attractions of this beautiful, historic city. These areas can be visited to spend the time and the preparation of the trek can be carried out on this day too.
Kathmandu- Syabrubesi (1300m-1440m)
This day is dedicated to drive by bus to the starting point of the actual trekking trail. The bus ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi is a fruitful one through the Trishuli Bazaar. The Trishuli river, roaring through its path and the beauty beheld by the entire area around, mesmerizes the onlookers. The way to Syabrubesi is filled with passage through small villages, situated at distant places and prayer flags adorned regions. Syabrubesi is a rich village full of all facilities like the internet and telephone. 8 hours drive.
Syabrubesi- Lama Hotel (1440m-2470m)
Through various suspension bridges and along the stream, this day’s destination is the Lama Hotel. Following the path through the Langtang River, the trail moves through oak and rhododendron forests and bamboo shoots can be seen along the way. Variety of wildlife can be observed too. These include yellow-throated martens, langur monkeys, Himalayan Black bears, red pandas and wild boars. After passing thorough these areas the Lama Hotel is reached. 5-6 hours trek.
Lama Hotel- Langtang (2470m-3430m)
This day is marked by a descend towards a deep forest slope into the Langtang River. Upon crossing a bridge, a winding path is reached. The trail then descends downwards towards a valet and through several water mills and prayer wheels; the trail reaches the large village of Langtang. 5-6 hours trek.
Langtang- Kyanjin Gompa (3430m-3870m)
The destination of trekking this day is the Kyanjin Gompa. The trail passes through a tiny village and through stone built houses. After climbing up to a Chorten, the trail passes through a gainat mani wall. Through a gentle climb up to a hill, the valley becomes U-Shaped as a riverbed is reached. Today’s walk is gentle and easy, allowing us to acclimatize easily with the altitude and the weather conditions. This area of the Kyanjin Gompa, is famous for the cheese and curd found here. 4-5 hours trek.
Exploration of the Kynajin Gompa
The viewpoints offered by the Kyanjin Gompa area are the Kyanjin Ri and the Tserko Ri situated at heights of 4800m and 5000m respectively. An early morning visit to the Tserko Ri provides spectacular views of the mountains like the Langtang Lirung, Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji as well as the Lirung Glacier, all present in the Langtang Region. After some rest, the Kyanjin Valley can be explored well for the mystiques it hides.
Kyanjin Gompa- Lama Hotel (3870m- 2470m)
Today’s path retraces back to the Lama Hotel. The path is a downhill descent which offers spectacular views of the towering mountain tops that can be seen on the way up. A slow walk is recommended today. 5-6 hours trek.
Lama Hotel- Thulo Syabru (2470m- 2230m)
5-6 hours trek. Today’s trek takes us to the Thulo Syabru. We first descend downwards to the river below and then upon crossing the river through a bridge, the path ascends upwards towards Thulo syabru. All along the way, the fascinating and mystical views of the Langtang and other Tibetan Peaks can be seen. Pine and Juniper forests adorn the area and finally Thulo Syabru is reached.
Thulo Syabru- Shin Gompa (2230m- 3330m)
Today’s trail is an uphill ascend. A broad trail climbs up to the Dimsa village after which the trail now becomes less steep. Upon passing through rhododendron, oak and hemlock forests, the trail reaches the Shim Gomba. All along the way, spectacular views of the Langtang Valley and the Langtang Himal are made available to the trekkers. Cheese is popular in this region too. 3-5 hours trek.
Shin Gomba- Gosainkunda (3330m-4460m)
Today’s trek will take us to the destination for which we have embarked upon the trek. Today;s trail ascends smoothly upwards through rhododendron forests up to the top of the hill. Laurebinayak is reached. The path ia adorned not only with different plant species, but also the animal species like the red panda as well as the Nepalese call cat bear. Through alpine vegetations and a wide route, Gosaikunda is reached. Other lakes are present in this region too, which can be explored. 5-6 hours trek.
The trek of this day will prove to be a challenging one. The trail passes through rough terrains and cross moraines. Three more small lakes are passed after which the Laurebinayak La, a viewpoint is reached. The viewpoint offers spectacular views of the mountain peaks of the Langtang region and the path now continues down to the Laurebinayak phedi. Up and down tracks will help us cross rocky pine and rhododendron trees before finally reaching Gopte. 6-8 hours trek.
Gopte- Melamchigaon (3440m-2560m)
Sliding down through a forested area, the trail today climbs upwards to a river bed and arrives finally at Kharka. This area is surrounded fully by rhododendron forest and climbing upwards will make us arrive at the Thare Pativillage. Upon directly climbing the ridge above the village, the marvelous views of the Jugal area can be savored. After crossing the village and passing through a forested area, we descnd downwards into the Melamchi River and climb up again to reach Melamchigaon. 6-7 hours trek.
Melamchigaon- Tarke Gyang (2560m-2590m)
This day, the actual Helambu region, a region full of cultural and religious diversity will be reached. This day’s trak takes us upwards to the Tarke Gyang. Tarke gyang is full of stone houses separated by narrow alleyways and traditional Sherpa people, portraying their cultural diversity. Monasteries present in this region can be visited too. 5-7 hours trek.
Tarke Gyang- Sermathang (2590m-2610m)
This day, the trail will first cross through a small forest. Also amalgamated is the view of the beautiful Helambu region. Upon sweeping right around the Helambu valley, the trail passes through the path between Parachin and the village Gangyul. The people here practice the religion of Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism and finally, after viewing all these things, we reach Sermanathang. 3-4 hours trek.
Sermathang- Melamchi Pul Bazaar- Kathmandu
Today, we follow through a short walk down to the Melamchi Bazaar. Along the way, we observe many Sherpa villages and will be provided with opportunity to mix up with these people and know details about their style of living. Upon reaching downwards, we catch a bus or a jeep rise to Kathmandu thus ending our trekking. Upon reaching Kathmandu, souvenier and other shopping can be adequately done. 3-4 hours trek. 2 hours drive.
After a heart-warming, incredible trek into the Helambu region and the visit to the holy lake of Goasikunda, it’s finally time to say goodbye to the beautiful Himalayan country, Nepal.
