Conquer Mount Makalu (8,485m), the world’s fifth-highest and one of its most challenging peaks. Makalu, known for its steep slopes, knife-edged ridges, and final technical rock climbing section, requires advanced mountaineering skill and significant endurance.

Trekking and Climbing Blocks

s 28th–29th April: Kathmandu Arrival and Preparation

  • Day Highlight: Arrival and final gear logistics.
  • Day Details: Arrive in Kathmandu (1350m) and transfer to your hotel. Use the preparation day for last-minute shopping and mandatory briefings.
  • Accommodation: 4-star hotel in Kathmandu (B&B basis for 4 nights).
  • Altitude: 1350m.
  • Day Highlight: Transition from sub-tropical to alpine zones.
  • Day Details: Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and drive to Num (1980m). The trek officially begins, leading through Tashi Gaun (2100m ) and steadily gaining altitude through Dobato (3650m) to Yangle Kharka (3600m).
  • Accommodation: Lodge.
  • Altitude: Max 3650m.
  • Day Highlight: Reaching the expedition command center.
  • Day Details: Trek to Makalu Base Camp (5018m), and swiftly move to the higher Makalu Advance Base Camp (ABC) (5600m). ABC serves as the launch point for climbing rotations.
  • Accommodation: Lodge/Camp.
  • Altitude: 5600m
  • Day Highlight: The ascent period, including the summit bid.
  • Day Details: This period is dedicated to rotations to C1, C2, and C3 for acclimatization, route fixing, and the final summit push to 8485m. This block includes two contingency days (May 17-18) for adverse weather or unexpected delays.
  • Accommodation: Camp.
  • Altitude: Up to 8485m.
  • Day Highlight: Helicopter transfer and expedition conclusion.
  • Day Details: Take the shared helicopter service from Makalu ABC to Kathmandu via Dingboche. Enjoy an extra day in Kathmandu for rest and transfer for final departure.
  • Accommodation: Hotel.
  • Altitude: 1350m.

Cost Includes

4. Service INCLUDES: Comprehensive Expedition Support

The US$19,000 fee covers the most vital logistical and safety elements for a successful expedition.

  1. Guiding & Safety: One professional climbing guide with equipment allowance, daily wages, and carrying bonus. Experienced Base Camp Cook and Kitchen helpers. High Altitude, Medical & Helicopter rescue insurance for involved Nepalese staff.
  2. Oxygen & Gear: 3 bottles of oxygen for members & 2 bottles for the climbing guide. Summit Mask & Regulator set for each member and guide.
  3. Permits & Fees: Necessary permit fees to climb Makalu. Makalu Summit route fixing charge. Garbage Management and disposal fee. Government taxes and company service charge.
  4. Logistics: Pick up and drop off services by a private vehicle. One Way Domestic flight from Kathmandu–Tumlingtar. Helicopter service (sharing basis) from Makalu ABC to Kathmandu. Land and air domestic transportation and cargo for the expedition.
  5. Base Camp Comfort: Each member will receive an individual tent, mattress & pillow at Base Camp. Common equipment provided: Dining Tent, Kitchen Tent, Shower Tent, Toilet Tent, Tables, Chairs, and Heater.
  6. High Camp Support: Services for C1–C3 include High Tent, Shovel, Rope, EPI Gas, Gas Burner (MSR Rector), and High Food.
  7. Meals & Communication: Freshly cooked multi-cuisine meals (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner). Availability of daily weather forecast. Walkie-Talkie for mountain communication. Farewell dinner in Kathmandu.

5. Service EXCLUDES: Member’s Mandatory Responsibility

All clients must arrange the following items, especially mandatory insurance:

  1. Mandatory Insurance: Personal travel, medical and emergency helicopter rescue insurance is required.
  2. Travel Fees: International airfare. Nepal entry visa fee (to be applied for 30 days).
  3. Tips & Bonus: Makalu summit bonus for Sherpa (US$1500.00). Tips for cook and kitchen helpers (US$250).
  4. Personal Gear & Expenses: Personal trekking and climbing gears. Lunch & dinner during your stay in Kathmandu. Personal charges like phone calls, internet, laundry, alcoholic beverages, specialty coffee, etc..
  5. Extra Fees: Drone & special filming permit if required. Satellite phone use is available for emergency use at $5 per minute.
